Drilling to Greater Depths

Latshaw Rig 10 recently racked up one of many outstanding achievements! Over an 18 day period, the crew drilled what has become the longest known lateral in the Permian Basin. In the continued partnership with Surge Energy and in conjunction with Pro Directional, Rig 10 accomplished an impressive 3.4 mile lateral, (24, 592 feet), a total vertical depth of 7,102 feet. This has become known as the longest lateral in the Permian Basin, based on IHS and Drillinginfo databases. All of this was accomplished in just 18 days using a conventional mud motor and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) technology.

“This industry milestone in the Permian Basin is our latest example of the innovation and technical expertise being executed by the Surge Energy Team,” said Dexter Burleigh, president and CEO of Surge. “We are extremely proud of our drilling team for this significant achievement.”

Overall, this was an outstanding achievement by Rig 10 and is a testiment to their determination and skills as a drilling team. What’s even more exciting is that there are plans for a 4 mile lateral in the near future! ■
